Princess Sophia Top

I created this pattern specially for my daughter's 3rd Birthday Party in school.

She have always like princess and girly clothes but I don't like the idea of getting her those typical princess fairy look alike dress. Thus, I came up with something practical yet resembles more or less like one. What's best is I paired it with a Tulle Big Butt Pants. A perfect coordination for a active 3 year old.

And whenever I looked at the completed piece, it reminded me of the Cartoon - Princess Sophia. That is how the naming of this pattern came about. :D

Now, you should end your Row 10 on the wrong side of the piece; ‘Right Back’ of the pattern.

Do not cut off the line. We will chain 1 and continue working on the 1 sides of the whole 10 rows. This will form the button band.

Button Band:

Row 1:Now rotate the piece with the sides up (wrong side facing you), work 14 SC evenly in these 10 rows. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2 – 8:Continue to work another 14 SC, Chain 1 and turn till you complete Row 8. Do not cut or turn.

We will now move on to work on the Arm Holes.

Arm Holes:

Rotate the piece back to the where you end your Neckline at Row 10 in the table above.
Work in rounds.

Work 8 HDC in the 8 SC rows created from making the button band above. Continue to work 1 HDC in each of the next 21 stitches until you reach the ‘Chain 1 space’. Chain 10 and skip the 50 stitches of the ‘Right Shoulder’. Work HDC in the Chain 1 space that connects to the next 44 stitches of the ‘Front’. Continue HDC in the 44 stitches until you reach the ‘Chain 1 space’. Chain 10 and skip the 50 stitches of the ‘Left Shoulder’. Work HDC in the Chain 1 space that connects to the last 20 stitches of the ‘Left Back’. Work 20 HDC in the last 20 stitches and do a SS to the first HDC of the Row.
(116 stitches)

Body:

Work in rounds.

Row 2:Begin the row with Chain 1 and HDC in the same stitch. Work 1 HDC in the next 115 stitches and end with a SS to the first HDC of the row.

Row 3 – 21:Repeat Row 2 until you reach the end of Row 21.

Peplum:

Work in rounds.

Row 1:Chain 1 and work ONLY on the ‘Back Loop’ of the stitch, 2 SC in the same stitch, 1 SC in the next stitch.

Continue the pattern “2 SC in the same stitch, 1 SC in the next stitch” to the end and join with a SS to the first SC of the row.

Row 2 – 11:Chain 3 and work 1 DC in each stitch till the end and join with a SS to the first DC of the row. Continue to work until you completed Row 11. Fasten off.

Mesh:

Now, change to the paddle-pop colored yarn.

In rounds, work in the ‘Front Loop’ of the stitch from where you end of the ‘Body’ at Row 21.

Row 1: Join stitch and Chain 1, SC in the same stitch. Chain 4, Skip a stitch, SC in the next stitch. Continue the pattern “Chain 4, Skip a stitch, SC in the next stitch” until the end of row. Join with a SS to the first SC of the row.

Row 2: SS to the Chain 4 Space. Chain 1, SC in the same space. Chain 4, SC into the next Chain 4 Space. Repeat the pattern “Chain 4, SC into the next Chain 4 Space” till end of the row. Join with a SS to the first SC of the row.

Row 3 – 11: Repeat Row 2 until you complete Row 11. Fasten off.

Cut a long strand and tie up the Mesh in the center front to create the drape.

Sleeve:

Work from the wrong side of the piece. Begin from the Chain 1 space created from making the Neckline above.

Using the paddle pop colored yarn.

Row 1: Join with a Chain 1, SC in the same stitch. 1 HDC in the next stitch. Work 3 DC in the next 46 stitches in the “Shoulder” part created from making the Neckline above. End the row with a HDC, SC at the chain 1 space across. Chain 1, turn.

Row 2:Now the right side of the piece should be facing you. SS in the SC from row 1. SC in the HDC from row 1. 2 HDC in the next 2 stitches. 1 DC in each of the stitch until you left 4 stitches from previous row. Work 2 HDC in the next 2 stitches. 1 SC in the next stitch and ends with a SS to the SC from row 1.

Fasten off.

Repeat the same for the other side of the sleeves.

Button Holes:

Using the excess (40 cm) yarn from the very beginning of the work. Chain 6 (or +/- the number of chains to ensure your button fits well), join with a slip stitch to ‘Row 2’ of the Neckline, creating a loop that resembles like a ‘C’. Turn and make 7 SC in the loop. Tie off and weave in the excess.

Bow:

Using a different color yarn of your choice.

Chain 8 + 11 + 8 + 11 (38). Join with a SS to the 1stChain.

Row 1: Chain 2. HDC 2 in the same stitch. HDC in the next 11 Chains. 3 HDC in the next Chain. HDC in the next 7 Chains. 3 HDC in the next Chain. HDC in the 11 Chains. 3 HDC in the next Chain. HDC in the last 7 Chains. SS to the Chain 2 from the beginning of the row. Fasten off.

It should now resemble like a rectangle.

Cut a long strand to tie around the center of the rectangle to create a bow, leaving behind excess of yarn so that you can sew on the Ribbon to the middle of the ‘Drape’ created in the ‘Mesh’ part.

Lastly, weave in all excess yarns.

You have now completed your Princess Sophia Top.
